Affinity
An apartment community app to create a better sense of community. This was a self case study based on a project idea from San Francisco State University ITECC 333 Becoming Innovative Digital Entrepreneurs.
The Challenge
During our toughest years of doing social distancing and stay-at-home orders, this app will help improve communication between neighbors and landlords. According to a Forbes survey, 59% of respondents felt that it is harder to form relationships since the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, COVID-19 encourages individuals to be physically far away from each other making it harder to socialize. Socializing is important for individuals to be able to function better. Moving is stressful. Some may be moving to a new environment and find it difficult to socialize.
The Solution
The purpose of creating Affinity is to help create friendships and a community within the neighborhood.
-
Become the first choice for landlords to help communicate.
-
Connect and regulate the apartment's community.
-
Provide connections for residents.
-
Create solutions to store paperwork and sell/give items
Goals
Research Process
Competitors
During my research, I discovered that this idea of a community apartment app is still relatively new. It was difficult to find competitors during my online search. I took the opportunity of looking at these apps to grasp what type of features are necessary. The most well-known is Vivia. Vivia has features to request services, report neighbors or suspicious activity, and entry preferences.
Whereas, the goal of Affinity is to help communicate, create, and regulate the community.
Affinity will serve a range of young adults (18) to middle-aged adults (30+) who may be new to moving or have trouble adapting to a new environment.

Results
After going over the user testing analysis, I came to a conclusion that adding more buttons for the user will help them explore better. With the amount of components I have, I need to add more screens and features to make the app feel organized.
